Chapter 1

Rumble in the Valley

Marcus felt the ground shake beneath his feet. Up on Dragon Mountain, a wall of snow was starting to shift. If it came down, it would bury the entire village.

Blaze landed beside him with a whoosh of warm air. The young dragon's emerald scales caught the morning light as he folded his golden wings.

"We don't have much time," Marcus said, looking up at the mountain. "The elders say only the Fire Crystal can melt a glacier that size."

The Climb Begins

Marcus grabbed his climbing gear and swung onto Blaze's back. They soared over the village — past the school, past the market, past the river — and up toward the frozen peaks.

The wind bit at Marcus's face, but Blaze's body radiated warmth like a living furnace. "Hold tight!" the dragon rumbled, banking sharply to avoid a jutting cliff.

Below them, the glacier groaned. They had to hurry.

Chapter 3

The Ice Caverns

Blaze couldn't fit through the entrance to the crystal caves, so Marcus went in alone — almost. Blaze breathed a small flame onto a stone, making it glow like a lantern.

"Take this," the dragon said gently. "I'll wait right here."

The caves were beautiful and terrifying. Ice formations hung from the ceiling like chandeliers, and the walls sparkled with frozen minerals. Marcus climbed deeper, following the warmth he felt pulling him forward.

The Guardian's Test

At the heart of the cavern, Marcus found the Fire Crystal — a gem the size of his fist, burning with inner flame. But between him and the crystal stood an ancient ice wolf, white as snow with eyes like pale blue moons.

"Why do you seek the crystal?" the wolf asked.

"To save my village," Marcus answered. "Not for power. Not for glory. Just to protect the people I love."

The wolf studied him for a long moment, then stepped aside.

Chapter 5

Racing the Avalanche

Marcus burst out of the cave with the Fire Crystal just as the mountain roared. The avalanche had begun — a wall of white thunder rolling down toward the valley.

Blaze scooped Marcus onto his back and dove toward the glacier. "Now, Marcus!" the dragon shouted.

Marcus held the crystal high. It blazed with light, and Blaze added his own fire breath. Together, dragon fire and crystal light cut through the glacier like a hot knife through butter.

Chapter 6

Hero of the Valley

The avalanche split around the village like a river around a rock, melting into warm streams that flowed harmlessly into the valley. Flowers bloomed where the water touched the ground.

The whole village cheered as Blaze landed in the town square. Marcus's mom ran out and hugged him so tight he could barely breathe.

"You did it," she whispered.

Marcus scratched Blaze behind his ear ridges — the dragon's favorite spot. "We did it," he corrected, and Blaze purred like a giant cat.

That night, the village held the biggest celebration anyone could remember, and Marcus and Blaze watched the fireworks together from their favorite spot on the hill.
